Seraphine has taken the internet world by storm. The girl-next-door turned K-pop diva has just broken out with an explosive collaboration with League of Legends' musical group K/DA. Before launching the single "MORE", Seraphine took time to speak to Inven Global's Lara Lunardi about her new life, K/DA, and more.
Nice to meet you, Seraphine! There is so much excitement about your collaboration with K/DA, it seems like it was just yesterday that you had a normal job, with a normal life... How have things changed since?
Things have changed so much so quickly! I feel like I’m learning so much in such a short amount of time. Music went from my hobby to my full-time job, and I honestly love it. Since I started working with K/DA, there’s a lot more pressure, though: there’s a lot of eyes on what we’re doing. I’ve been working really hard cause I don’t wanna let them down.
This is your first high profile collaboration, with incredible artists like Ahri, Kai'Sa, Evelynn, and Akali. Were you nervous to work with the group? Which member was the one you bonded the most with?
I was so nervous! These were literally my idols, I didn’t even know how to talk to them at first. Akali was the easiest to get along with. She always reached out to me and teased me, wouldn’t let me be a stranger. Over time we all got really close, though. It feels like everyone’s been looking out for me in their own way, which I’m really grateful for.
You guys just landed in Shanghai. How has the experience been so far? We saw you had an incident with the hotel keys... [laughs]
Ah! Yeah, I was so distracted, I lost the first key almost immediately. Everyone was treating us like royalty, so it was pretty embarrassing to have to call and ask for help five minutes later. [laughs] But Shanghai has been incredible. The food is amazing, the city’s beautiful. Luckily I can speak Mandarin, so that makes communicating easier, but everyone can tell it's not my first language.
Here's one thing I am super curious about... Your outfit! You were used to more comfortable and simple designs when performing. What is it like to receive the full royal K-pop treatment?
I’m definitely used to more comfy clothing since I’d do everything from my bedroom! But I really love the K/DA outfit that Eve designed for me. It’s amazing, honestly. I feel like a different person wearing it. I still don’t feel like a star, haha, but putting everything on helps me step into that role.
We can't wait to see you perform at Worlds 2020. How do you think this performance will change your career from now on?
I think preparing for this performance has definitely changed the way I look at music. I’ve become a lot more confident. I know a lot more now about what makes a good show, how to rely on your team. And personally, I think it’s really inspired me to chase my dreams and figure out my own passions. After this, I’m thinking about actually trying a solo career to learn more about my own sound.
