Today, October 20, at 3:00pm PT, Sacha Baron Cohen will stream on Twitch for the first time. The creator and star of 'Borat' will be appearing on a stream with Benjamin "DrLupo" Lupo as the eponymous character from the 2006 mockumentary film.
Twitch tweeted about the planned duo stream yesterday, stating that Borat would be facing off against DrLupo 'in a battle for global supremacy' on DrLupo's Twitch channel. DrLupo, currently a streamer for Rogue, rose to relevance as one of the first big Fortnite streamers.
The Borat/DrLupo stream is likely in lieu of the announcement of the Borat sequel, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, which comes to theatres on October 23, 2020. It is not currently known what games the stream will consist of nor if Baron Cohen and DrLupo will be playing something cooperatively or taking each other on head-to-head as the tweet implies.
This is not the first time that Fortnite has paved the way for a mainstream crossover. Two and a half years ago, astronomically popular Fortnite streamer Tyler "Ninja" Blevins streamed with Aubrey Graham — who is known better in the music industry by the alias Drake.
In addition, the global pandemic caused by COVID-19 has paved the way for more streaming verticals than ever before. Gamers have been joined by standup comics, fitness specialists, and even musicians due to the shutdown nature of large gatherings around the majority of the globe.
Due to the controversial and at times outright crass nature exhibited by Baron Cohen's Borat, pairing him with one of the most accessible and compassionate streamers on Twitch should make for quite an interesting stream. At the end of the day, both Lupo and Baron Cohen are entertainers and will no doubt put on a very nice show for an audience that will most likely be a healthy mixture of gamers and non-gamers.
