Golden Guardians is locked and loaded for 2020. The Golden State Warriors affiliate solidified both the rosters and coaching staffs for its main squad in the LCS, as well as Golden Guardians Academy, in an official release on Wednesday, December 4.
TCL 2019 Summer Split MVP and former Royal Youth Jungler Can "Closer" Çelik forms a fearsome 1-2 punch with star Top Laner Kevin "Hauntzer" Yarnell. Closer was signed as the starter, and Juan "Contractz" Garcia parted ways with the org and has joined 100 Thieves Academy.
Greyson "Goldenglue" Gilmer, who spent the majority of this Cloud9 tenure on C9 Academy, will be starting in the Mid Lane. Victor "FBI" Huang remains as the starting Bot Laner, and GGSA Bot Laner Yuri "Keith" Jew has swapped roles from AD Carry to Support to round out the starting five. The squad's Head Coach is Nick "Inero" Smith, who served as the team's Head Coach in the 2019 LCS Spring Split, and Golden Guardians Academy's Head Coach in the 2019 NA Academy Summer Split.
Inero returns to his old position in place of Jimmy Harrison, who joined the team as a Two-Way Player Coach before the 2019 season. Harrison will stay with Golden Guardians as the Player Performance Coach in 2020.
Joseph "Potluck" Pollock, who took over for Harrison in the 2019 LCS Summer Split in the Two-Way Player Coach role after starting for GGSA in the Jungle last spring, will be replaced Samuel “Spookz” Broadley. Broadley joins the organization with fellow former ORDER coach Aaron “ChuChuZ” Bland, the latter of whom served as the OPL organization's Head Coach in 2019.
Golden Guardians Academy also made changes from the top down. LPL host, caster, and commentator Barento "Raz" Mohammad will be stepping down from his on-camera work of the last four years for a new challenge in the form of the GGSA Head Coach role. Prior to his time in the LPL, Raz served as a coach and analyst for Team Dignitas.
Top Laner Darshan "Darshan" Upadhyaya and Jungler Anthony "Hard" Barkhovtsev return as members of the Golden Guardians Academy starting roster. Choi "Huhi" Jae-hyun will start at Support, and former TSM Academy Mid Laner Nicholas "Ablazeolive" Abbott will round out the roster with 2019 NA Scouting Grounds participant Alex "Gorica" Gorica in the Bot Lane.
Support Kim "Olleh" Joo-sung has not announced his future at this time, nor has Golden Guardians. Olleh is only one year removed from back to back LCS championships with Team Liquid.
