100 Thieves has announced the final piece of its starting roster. The organization confirmed that Tommy "ry0ma" Le would make his LCS debut in the 2020 Spring Split as the team's starting Mid Laner. 100's signing of ry0ma was first reported by ESPN Esports' Jacob Wolf on the ESPN League of Legends Free Agency show, and the now-confirmed transfer marks the first time a Mid Laner from the Oceanic Pro League will start in the LCS.
100 Thieves General Manager Chris "PapaSmithy" Smith took to twitter after the announcement to explain the organization's methodology on selecting ry0ma to round out its 2020 roster. PapaSmithy cited ry0ma's high baseline of skill with clear upside, as assessed by four members of the 100 Thieves staff, but also pointed towards his first language being English, his references, and an exceeding of expectations at this tryout for the team.
PapaSmithy then went on to explain the magnitude of ry0ma's opportunity in the greater context of the League of Legends esports ecosystem, and PapaSmithy commended ry0ma for his understanding of the context surrounding his opportunity:
In trading his Bombers jersey for Thieves thread, ry0ma joins Top Laner Kim "Ssumday" Chan-ho, Jungler William "Meteos" Hartman, Bot Laner Sun "Cody Sun" Li-Yu, and Support William "Stunt" Chen on 100's LCS starting five.
