The final tournament of the JCG Open Season 1 took place from January 28th to 29th (JST), and it went out with "a bang and a boom".
Currently the only tournament to feature an exclusive in-game award, the JCG Open is the most popular tournament for Shadowverse. For the final JCG Open of Season 1, over 2,000 people registered for the tournament, and 1,024 people were able to compete.

Following the trend of Ranked Games, Runecraft was the most popular class in the tournament on Day 1 by taking 36% of the metagame. Second place went to Forestcraft, at around 20% of the metagame. The popularity of these two classes persisted to Day 2, as the metagame ratio for these two classes in Day 2 have increased by more than 5 percent.*
Even for the top 4 players, all but one player opted to go with a Forestcraft and a Runecraft deck, and the one outlier picked a Runecraft deck as well. Although the winner did not use the most popular deck of these two classes, there is no denying that these two classes are not only the most popular choices, but also the most successful as well.
While being the most popular class is not a sin in itself, it is worrying how both Runecraft and Forestcraft have converted their popularity into tournament success by taking up a larger share of the metagame as the tournament progressed and eventually winning the tournament.
Since it is quite easy to 'reroll' an account so that anyone can start to play the game with two or more key legendary cards, we might continue to see the rise of Runecraft (and Forestcraft) until a breakout deck that can reasonably compete with these two is found.
