The last match of Groups spelled either the death of NA or the death of the previous World Champions. A defeat for TL would mean Yiliang "Peter" "Doublelift" Peng failed yet again to make it out of Groups and NA would have seen all three representatives eliminated. A defeat for IG would mean only one single LPL team would qualify, and there would be no chance at a run back for the title. 

After TL silenced the Chinese superpower at MSI, IG had a difficult summer, while Liquid continued theri dominance in NA. But none of that mattered. All that mattered was the better team today, and that just happened to be IG. 

TL join C9 and CG on flights back to LA, Worlds over for North America. IG join FPX in a flight to Madrid, the LPL showing signs of life after an RNG elimination earlier on. The final count for regions in the Knockout Stage sits at LCK - three first seeds, LEC - three second seeds, and LPL - one of each.
