Comic Con comes to Korea for the first time this summer

A large multi-genre entertainment convention and pop culture event is finally coming to Korea this August.

Reed Exhibitions, the event organizer for Comic Con Seoul, held a conference at Seoul, Korea and announced that Comic Con Seoul will be held from Aug 4th to Aug 6th.

Lance Fensterman, senior vice president of ReedPOP, presented himself at the conference and had a moment to introduce ReedPOP and Comic Con.

ReedPOP is a leading event organizer for pop culture around the globe. It has successfully organized many pop culture events including Comic Cons in different cities, Star Trek: Mission New York, and Star Wars Celebration. Lance Fensterman added “we are confident that we create the best pop culture in the world, and it is an honor to launch Comic Con in such a creative and innovative city.”

Comic Con has been launched in New York, Chicago, Paris, Beijing, and other cities around the world. About 2 million audiences have visited the events and about 2 thousand companies have participated in the events to present their content. Movies, comics, games, and other pop culture content will all be available for the audience to enjoy. In addition, attendees have a chance to meet famous movie directors and movie stars, and get the latest information on popular movies and TV shows.

Details on sub-events and fairs were revealed later on. Audiences can participate in cosplay contests, meet their favorite artists, and also enjoy a variety of movies, TV shows, comics, animations, and games. In addition, the final winner of the cosplay contest will have an opportunity to participate in the 2017 Global Championship of Cosplay. Ticket prices are about $25 for a 1-day pass, $35 for a 2-day pass, $45 for a 3-day pass, and $15 for students and kids. The STAR pass is a special ticket necessary to meet guest actors and artists.

President of Reed Exhibitions Korea added “As Lance said, Comic Con is meant for those who love pop culture. We are ready to hear your opinions and will always do our best to give you a positive experience with Comic Con.” Committee members called “Comic Con Creators” will be working together to listen to the fan’s opinions and deliver them to ReedPOP.

Q&A Session

Lance Fensterman and event director Mary Franklin from ReedPOP, and president Sohn and event director Han from Reed Exhibitions Korea participated in Q&A session to answer some questions from the audience.

What are the difference between other pop culture events and Comic Con Seoul?

The biggest difference is that Comic Con features a wide range of pop culture. It has movies, TV shows, and other pop culture-related content all together. In addition to that, actors/actresses and artists from around the world will be participating in the event. It will be a global event, unlike other similar events in Korea.

How can we get details on the event?

We are trying to make the information available to the public as soon as possible. A list of participating companies will be available on our website starting from March or April. Schedules regarding workshops and seminars will be available on our website around April too. We are also planning some interesting sub-events like meeting with Hollywood actors or Japanese voice actors. We hope you are looking forward to those.

Why did you decide to launch Comic Con in Seoul?

Because Seoul has fans like you guys, the people who enjoy pop culture. We believe Seoul is ready for a big cultural festival.

What are some major contents and what kind of goods will be in the market place?

Marvel and DC Comics will definitely be there, and other Japanese and Korean comics will be there too. Details will be released on March or April. There will be some limited toy figures on the market place, as well as special editions.

The price seems a bit expensive. Is that final?

We’ve researched some ticket prices for other events and amusement parks in Seoul. It might look expensive at first glance, but we guarantee that it will be worth your money.
