When an esports pro retires from competitive play, it is as a much earlier age than virtually any other industry. As a result, many 20 ex-pro players are often left with the often puzzling problem of finding a new line of work or career that still takes advantage of their intense involvement and investment surrounding esports.
Some turn to casting, others join esports teams and work as management, but retired League of Legends player, Yan "Letme" Jun-Ze of team previously of team Royal Never Give Up has turned his sights to something completely different.
Letme has dived into the world of street fashion, designing apparel under the brand R39. The brand's official reveal will start on September 28th at the Ansha International Conference Center in Shanghai. The reveal will gives fans the first detailed look of what R39 is calling the first Chinese street fashion brand completely inspired by esports culture, aesthetic, and passion.
R39 aims to bridge the gap between street fashion culture and videos. Inspired by a mix of Hip-hop, skateboard, and gaming aesthetics, the brand first became active last weekend, starting with a runaway exhibition in China.
Since then, R39 has been sending influencer packages to gamers all across Asia -- InvenGlobal has received images of said influencer package as seen below.
R39 isn't the first street fashion brand to attempt a fusion within the world of esports, but it is one of the first Chinese brands designed by a former pro-player so widely liked in China. The industry has 4 already seen official leagues like the OWL invest heavily into street fashion and the success of esports teams like 100 Thieves (the first team to truly excel at creating a street fashion brand) continues to demonstrate the link between street fashion and esports.
This month, we also saw the world of high fashion enter esports. Louis Vuitton has partnered with the 2019 League of Legends World Championship which is a sentence few people ever thought they would read.
