Epic Games is making two changes to Fortnite's matchmaking, and it looks like they will help players across the entire skill spectrum. In a blog post, the developers explain why they felt the changes were necessary: "Since Battle Royale launched, the matchmaking strategy for our core modes has remained mostly unchanged. Over the past two years, however, the range of player skill has grown considerably."
The first change takes place behind the scenes, and is focused on the group of players you are thrown in a match with. While the developers don't use the word 'Elo' in the post, the change boils down to simply an improved matchmaking system, which will put players of similar skill levels in matches with each other more often. The change won't immediately impact all game modes on all servers, but is going to be rolled out slowly so Epic can test the water.
The second change could be more noticable: Bots. No, not new players who can't aim, but actual AI that adapts to the player's skill level and helps them learn. For newer players more bots will be present in the match than for the top-ranking players, and they'll be completely absent in Competitive matches. Aside from directly helping new players, the bots also prevent more advanced players to get stuck with someone who hasn't quite figured the game out yet.
Epic Games ends the blog by stating that, much like the matchmaking system, the bots will continuously be tinkered with and updated to provide the best experience possible.

Storyteller by heart. If something is competitive, I am interested in it.
