On July 7th (KST), the LCK defeated LPL in the finals of the 2019 Rift Rivals. Although Griffin gave up a game in the finals, they did win the first two games during in the first day. After the game, head coach Kim "cvMax" Dae-ho and jungler Lee "Tarzan" Seung-yong expressed how they felt after the championship ceremony.
It’s the first Rift Rivals championship for the LCK. How do you feel?
cvMax: I feel a bit weird because our team wasn’t able to do our role thoroughly. However, I do feel good that we won the championship. Next time, I’d like to contribute to the win more.
Tarzan: It does feel weird because we won the championship despite the fact that we lost. Thankfully, all the other teams did really well so we were able to win.
How did you feel competing in your first international competition?
cvMax: We were nervous and excited at the same time as it was our first international competition. If we’re able to get to Worlds, I’d like to show a more organized and better performance.
What do you think about the game LPL won?
cvMax: It was a composition where we aimed for the late game with Viktor earning money through Spellthief. It wasn’t bad, but the game went wrong at the unnecessary Ocean Drake fight. Since we tried so many different compositions, I guess the players were confused with this comp.
It was visible that there was a prowess gap between the LPL and LCK. What do you think the biggest difference was?
cvMax: Before, the gap was big, but now, I think there’s not much difference between LPL and LCK. LPL started to lay more importance in macro and the LCK now fights well. The results will come from meta interpretation now.
(To the players) Which player was the most impressive during this Rift Rivals?
Tarzan: Doinb, who we played against today, was very impressive. His unique pick and unique macro was outstanding.
