In recent weeks the Clash Royale development team has been hinting at changes coming to the game in the next major update. Rumors of a new Legendary card being added, a new season format and a "flood" theme were all teased. But, as of 5 a.m. EDT, SuperCell released an update video on Clash Royale's official Youtube channel with what players can expect in July's update which is slated to go live on Monday.
If you take Roadhog from Overwatch, Scorpion from the Mortal Kombat franchise and they have a bearded baby who has an affinity for the sea, you have the Fisherman, the newest card being added to the game.
A four-elixir Legendary troop, Fisherman can grapple himself to opposing structures to close ground as well as use his hook to lock onto an enemy troop and pull them towards his body. Once they arrive, he slaps them with his weapon...a fish.
According to a gameplay video on Tim "CWA Mobile Gaming" Evan's Youtube Channel, Fisherman's ability to pull units to activate a player's King Tower early in the game can be quite useful.
Despite Clash Royale being out for years, the development team is introducing "Season 1" which is flood themed and will offer players the ability to earn extra goodies via a new battle pass system. Titled "Pass Royale," for the price of $4.99 per month, players will be able to unlock exclusive tower skins, cosmetics, emotes and additional rewards just for playing.
Players will be able to log in tomorrow (July 1) to see the option to purchase the Pass Royale. According to the development team, it can be purchased at any time during the season and no rewards will be lost for those who don't opt to buy it right away.
The folks at RoyaleAPI released a video showing some of the prizes that can be unlocked along the way in addition to the cosmetics.
Not only is new content coming to the game but six existing cards are being buffed, nerfed and reworked, including quite a few that have been seen as "problems" within the community.
Arguably the most powerful spell in the game, the Barbarian Barrel, is seeing a 33% decrease in the width of the barrel itself to lessen his ability to clear hordes of troops before he pops out.
The two other cards being nerfed are the Giant Snowball and the Internal Tower who are experiencing a 17% reduction in their radius and a 25% decrease in their lifetime, respectively.
Goblin Cage, the newest card to the game prior to the Fisherman going live, is seeing a 25% increase in the Cage's lifespan as well as the Goblin himself dealing 25% more when he is released, according to RoyaleAPI.
Finally, Cannon Cart and the Cannon card itself are seeing a slight rework to alter the way the building dishes out damage.
The Cannon Cart itself is seeing a 17% reduction in its damage output but is receiving a small boost to its health, hit speed and range. Once the Cart breaks and the Cannon remains, it will do 32% more damage but at a 25% slower fire rate. The latter numerical change will go into effect for the Cannon card as well.
With Season 1 of Clash Royale set to kick off tomorrow, Supercell is going all-in on July's patch being a heck of a tale.
