Lovers duo Xayah and Rakan have been relevant in the competitive League of Legends metagame for the majority of their existences. Right from release, the coordination and mobility both champions provided for themselves, as well as each other, made them a favorite pick for many a Bot Lane around the world.
Perhaps no one is as familiar with either of the lovers duo as Jo "CoreJJ" Yong-in is with Rakan. Not only is the champion his most played throughout the 2019 Summer Split thus far, but the LCS Spring Split MVP also sports his own skin from his 2017 World Championship win as part of Samsung Galaxy.
Rakan recently received nerfs in the form of changes to his ultimate, which has put a damper on his previously otherworldly capabilities. Still, that hasn't stopped CoreJJ from playing his signature pick, though the frequency of the pick in Team Liquid drafts could also stem from his dislike of Yuumi.
CoreJJ joined Inven Global's Lara Lunardi to discuss the changes to Rakan after Team Liquid defeated OpTic Gaming last Sunday. Team Liquid drafted the lovers duo for CoreJJ and AD Carry Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng.
"I've watched pretty much every Rakan player on this patch," said CoreJJ. "This patch makes Rakan players look dumb...After the changes, trying to play Rakan into long-range, immobile champions is a lot harder, but you should still try."
CoreJJ even switched off his signature SSG Worlds skin for this game, using Invictus Gaming Support Wang "Baolan" Liu-Yi's 2018 World Championship skin for Rakaninstead. However, don't expect that trend to continue.
"I think my Rakan skin is better."
