Epic Games' Fortnite is making another big splash in the world of gaming, teasing a collaboration with Marvel's Avengers set to release this Friday.
The FortniteXAvengers event looks to be in convergence with the Friday, April 26th premiere of Avengers: Endgame, the finale of Marvel's Avengers film series based on the comic books of the same name. The picture tweeted out by the official Fortnite account features a Captain America shield in the foreground. Further information has yet to be released from Epic Games or other sources.
This is not the first mainstream collaboration for Fortnite. Epic Games turned the gaming industry on its ear around the time of the premiere of Avengers: Infinity War, making Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet limited time in-game cosmetics. Since the initial collab with Marvel, Fortnite has also collaborated with the NFL during Super Bowl LIII with in-game skins featuring the uniforms of the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams.
In addition to several other collaborations, Fortnite notably held an in-game concert with electronic music artist Christopher "Marshmello" Comstock.
Marshmello, an avid player and fan of Fortnite himself, became a mainstay in the Fortnite community after teaming up in the duos tournament of the Fortnite PRO-AM at E3 2018 with Tyler "Ninja" Blevins.
The weekend event will also directly overlap with the schedule of the Fortnite World Cup, which in its third week will consist of the Semifinals and Finals of the solo bracket. This is not the first time Epic Games has made a potentially drastic change to the game just before a Fortnite Esports event. How this weekend's in-game changes will affect the competitive landscape may shake up expectations.
