Aside from the vast in-game hotfixes and patches, another thing that Riot Games has been focusing on the past few years was to make
As a user myself, I've been focusing more on the gameplay rather than the universe of LoL since it wasn’t any appealing compared to the vast in-game features it had. However, these recent changes in the lore seem like a much more improved version of what I’ve seen in the early days of LoL and I’m pretty sure it is capturing the interest of other numerous users as well.
As I was going through the “Universe” page of Riot Games, I came to a thought that, “What if each region of the Runterra was to compete in the Summoners Rift as an international competition?” As a matter of fact, each region had at least 5 champions which would be enough to make a 'team'. So, I did an imaginary draft on my own and made 12 teams. For your information, the picks for each region were mainly focused on making a composition for official matches.
The following is an "unofficial" list of the best 5 for each region of the Runterra.
Champions: Corki, Lulu, Rumble, Teemo, Tristana, Veigar
It’s quite hard to find a viable jungle champion in Bandle City. The only champion that is often used in the jungle would be Rumble. But, they’ll always have captain Teemo for the rescue. I’d personally recommend them to fight after level 6 near narrow alleys in the jungle. When some of the opponents step on Teemo’s mushrooms, surprise them with Rumble - Corki’s Equalizer + extended Valkyrie. They don’t have any frontline bruisers so Lulu’s ultimate will indeed come in handy.
Champions: Fizz, Gangplank, Graves,
Bilgewater has some champions that have useful ultimates. Graves isn’t the best for ganks so, it’d be best for them to withstand the lane phase and make good use of their global ultimates after level 6. With Gangplank on their side, they’ll be well equipped in late games. They do seem to lack AP damage which can be a weakness if Twisted Fate fails to scale up to the late game. The Gangplank + Miss Fortune ultimate combo do seem like a big threat for the opponents. Follow it up with Graves ultimate and secure those kills.
Champions: Sylas, Garen, Sona, Lux, Jarvan IV, Lucian, Morgana, Kayle, Fiora, Poppy, Quinn, Shyvana, Vayne, Xin Zhao, Galio
Demacia seems to have one of the most balanced compositions among the Runterra regions. They can snowball starting from the early bottom laning phase with Lucian on their side. Their laners will get some sufficient support from Jarvan’s ganks as well. They also have one of the strongest late game carry, the ‘remade’ Kayle in
Champions: Ashe, Lissandra, Sejuani, Gnar, Gragas, Tryndamere, Braum, Nunu & Willump, Olaf, Anivia, Trundle, Udyr, Volibear,
It looks like it’s impossible to run away from the Freljord team since they have some massive CC skills in their comp. They might seem a bit weak in case of damage dealing in the late game, but they have Ornn who will be ready to upgrade his team's items. Also, they have Braum who is one of the best supports in protecting their marksmen. However, Sejuani isn’t the strongest in early skirmishes, so they’ll have to be extremely cautious when it comes to top-jungle /mid-jungle 2 vs 2s.
Champions: Kayn, Rakan, Xayah, Ahri, Akali, Irelia, Jhin, Yasuo, Karma, Ivern, Kennen, Lee Sin, Master Yi, Shen, Syndra, Varus, Zed, Wukong
Ionia’s composition does seem quite frightening. They have some meta picks that can make some aggressive plays early in the game. The presence of Lee Sin in the jungle seems to be a big asset for Ionia. Rakan will become a big threat in mid to late game teamfights. Yasuo will have some good enough support when using his ultimate from the help of Rakan and Lee Sin. The enemy main carries should be especially careful since Akali will be ready to jump in for an assassination.
Champions: Leona, Diana, Soraka, Pantheon, Zoe, Aurelion Sol, Taric
It’s pretty difficult to even make a competitive draft for Mount Targon
Champions: Cassiopeia, Darius, Draven, Katarina, Kled, Leblanc, Riven, Sion, Swain, Talon, Vladimir
Noxus has a pretty solid composition with strong AP mages in their top and mid lane. Sion isn’t one of the best support out there but his skillset will indeed be a good help in the teamfight phase. Noxus to have quite a strong jungle-mid duo, so they should try to play around their mid lane. With Sion-Draven hitting level 6, they'll also be able to give some support near the mid lane using their ultimates as well. Vladimir, one of the best late game AP champs out there, will indeed come in handy in the mid to late game teamfights.
Champions: Camille, Caitlyn, Ezreal, Jayce, Orianna, Vi, Heimerdinger
Piltover has a good poke comp with Jayce-Ezreal on their side. What they should do early in the game is to play around
Champions: Hecarim, Karthus, Thresh, Kalista, Mordekaiser, Yorick, Maokai, Elise
Although Karthus isn’t one of the best mid champions in the current meta, in general, the Shadow Isles team do seem to have good meta picks in their comp. They have Yorick who will be a big help for pushing through their side lanes. Kalista-Thresh duo will most likely have some advantage in
Champions: Amumu, Azir, Nasus, Rammus, Renekton, Rengar, Sivir, Skarner, Taliyah, Xerath
Shurima will have to use their 'playmaker',
Champions: Cho’Gath, Kassadin, Kha’Zix, Kai’Sa, Kog’Maw, Malzahar, Rek’Sai, Vel’Koz
Team Void will probably be the strongest in late games with Kassadin and Kai'Sa on their side. However, even with the presence of Rek'Sai in the jungle, their early game, especially near the top-mid lane, seems very weak. Cho'Gath and a Kassadin before level 6 lack mobility which won't be a good help for Rek'Sai in the jungle matchup.
Champions: Jinx, Ekko, Twitch, Blitzcrank, Dr. Mundo, Janna, Singed, Urgot, Viktor, Warwick, Zac, Ziggs
Team Zaun has a solid teamfight comp. It will come down to how well their laners can withstand the laning phase. Viktor, Jinx-Janna aren't the best in the early game in mid and bottom. Zac is pretty weak before he hits level 6 as well. If he's facing an aggressive jungler, team Zaun will definitely suffer pretty hard. Nevertheless, the Urgot-Zac frontline and Viktor-Jinx main carry do seem very strong in teamfights. Viktor and Jinx lack escape skills so Janna will have a lot of work to do.
