On the 2nd, Damwon Gaming defeated Afreeca Freecs 2-1.
This series hosted the most back and forths. In the first game, Damwon Gaming held the early game advantage but soon fell victim to Dread’s incredible Dragon steals. With Kiin scaling and splitting on Ryze, Damwon was forced to engage and start a fight near the Baron. Although ShowMaker stole Baron as Syndra, Dread redeemed himself by stealing the Elder Dragon and closing out the game.
In the second and third game, the early game bounced back and forth between Damwon and Afreeca. Ultimately, for both games, Damwon came out on top. After the series, we got to interview Damwon’s jungler, Canyon. Let’s see what he has to say.
¤ How do you feel about today’s win?
It feels really good to win. It is our 6th win in a row and I hope we can keep it going.
¤ Flame has recently joined Damwon and is said to be the shotcaller for the team. How is it playing with Flame?
For me, I dont' really talk that much in or out of the game. With the addition of Flame, he really does talk a lot and help the team shotcall. Flame is not afraid to say what is on his mind. It doesn't hurt that he is also really good at the game.
¤ In game 1, Dread stole 2 Dragons from Damwon. What are your thoughts on Dread?
Dread is the type of jungler that would look towards playing around the mid lane. Once he gains a lead, he will not let it go and snowball it to an eventual win.
¤ After today's win, Damwon Gaming is on a 6 win streak. When on a win streak, is there more pressure building up for every game you play? Or are you not affected by this?
I would be lying if I said I didn't feel any pressure at all. I do feel it in every game that we go into. My way to cope with the pressure is to just ignore it or forget about it.
¤ What are your thoughts on Afreeca putting a top laner (Brook) to the mid lane?
Yeah, I saw that too. I honestly do not know why they put Brook into the mid lane. Yeah...(laughs). I really don't understand why Afreeca put a Brook in the mid lane.
¤ Recently, Rek’Sai is said to be incredibly strong. What are your thoughts? What counters Rek’Sai?
Rather than a counter, I think a champion that can go fairly even against Rek'Sai would be Elise. The reason why I think Rek'Sai is considered tier 1 jungle right now is because of Lee Sin. Lee Sin is seen frequently in the LCK and Rek'Sai is a straight counter to Lee.
I realized that Rek'Sai is incredibly strong in the early game but falls off really hard in the late game. The best way to combat against her would be to play safe and don't give her any leads if possible. It is difficult but that is the only way you can play around her.
¤ Lastly, is there anything you want to say?
I will try my best to practice harder and to not get lazy. Thank you for supportiing me.
