On the 21st of February (KST), Afreeca Freecs played against SANDBOX Gaming in Day 22 of 2019 LCK Spring Split. Afreeca came out on top with a tough 2-1 win. Game 1 went in favor of SANDBOX with splendid macro, but games 2 and 3 were won by Afreeca. In Game 2, Kim “Kiin” Gi-in’s performance on Jayce was amazing and in Game 3, Kim “Aiming” Ha-ram had a 7/0/7 performance on Kai’Sa carrying the team. After the match, the MVPs were interviewed.
Below is an interview with MVPs Kiin and Aiming.
It’s a valuable win after your 3-game losing streak. How do you feel?
Kiin: We were down a bit because we kept losing recently but it’s a relief that we won today and I think we can crawl back up.
Aiming: We kept losing whenever we played but I’m happy to bring down SANDBOX which is a strong team.
Your ability carrying Game 2 was amazing. What did you think after seeing how much damage you dealt?
Kiin: I didn’t really think that I dealt so much damage, so I was really surprised.
Before Game 2, did the team agree upon laying strength in the top lane?
Kiin: We did talk about that and I think it went well as planned.
In that game, you bought QSS rather early. Did you feel pressured that you shouldn’t be cut off?
Kiin: I bought QSS early because Zoe’s sleepy bubble could cause trouble.
Can you explain a bit about the solo kill moment?
Kiin: I scaled pretty well but Summit was pushing lane so I thought I should make him pay. He did live for a bit longer than expected but I was sure that I could kill him.
What did Kiin say after Game 2?
Aiming: He encouraged everybody by saying that everyone did well.
There are many different item builds for Kai’Sa. You bought IE and Guinsoo first today. What do you think is best?
Aiming: I think for Kai'Sa, the item build that can evolve Q early is best. The Ruined King build should be done with Vayne.
How did you seize the kill chance in Game 3?
Aiming: Jelly said that we can do it, so I did. The second one was also well synergized.
Was Baron just to lure the opponents to fight in the last teamfight?
Kiin: Yes, the others were saying that we’ll win no matter what if a fight starts so we used Baron as bait.
What’s your goal for Round 2?
Kiin: In the current situation, I think we need to get out of the danger of being relegated. We’ll need to put in more effort so that our performance becomes better.
Aiming: I wish we can get within 5th place.
Lastly, a word to the fans?
Kiin: We were on a losing streak for long and made the fans worry. We’ll do our best so that we can deliver better performance from now on.
