On the 26th of November (KST), SK Telecom T1 announced that they have signed Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong and coach Kim Sang-cheol. Coach Kim had been the coach of various teams including Jin Air Green Wings and also had coached Mata in Royal Never Give Up.
Signing Mata was like SKT’s last puzzle piece for 2019. Kim “Khan” Dong-ha, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, and Park “Teddy” Jin-seong are known as players that have strong characteristics within the team. SKT needed a player that can control these other players and SKT decided to sign Mata to carry out that role.
Mata is a legendary support player that has won Worlds, became the first support player to win Worlds MVP, and had two LCK championships. He returned to the LCK in 2016 and played for kt Rolster, proving himself as one of the strongest support players in the world.
SKT didn’t consider many candidates for their support position. Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun and Park “TusiN” Jong-ik were mentioned from time to time, but they didn’t contact anyone but Mata. Although Mata received calls from many different teams in EU, LPL, and LCK, he settled in SKT.
Over the years, Mata had always been in one of the rival teams of SKT like MVP White (Samsung White), RNG, and kt Rolster. Yesterday the enemy, now today’s ally; many fans are watching with keen interest what change and what synergy Mata can bring to the team.
