Fans of Blizzard Entertainment's Diablo franchise: rejoice! Netflix is considering an original animated series based on the legendary series of dungeon crawler games.
Andrew Cosby, the co-creator of the popular sci-fi series Eureka and screenwriter behind the upcoming Hellboy reboot, confirmed his involvement in the series on Twitter Wednesday.
“I guess I can confirm I am indeed in final talks to write and show-run the new Diablo animated series for Activision and Netflix. It’s very exciting and I hope to the High Heavens it all works out,” wrote Cosby in a now-deleted tweet, adding that the series will undoubtedly be Rated-R.
Said rating would seem fitting, of course -- Diablo is a story of war between humans and demons, the latter led by the eponymous Prime Evil demon Diablo (which isn't exactly family-friendly subject matter).
This would not be the first time Netflix has dabled in video game adaptations. The second season of Castlevania, an R-Rated animated original based on the 1989 Japanese video game Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, is coming to the streaming platform in late October. A third season has already been greenlit.
As of now, there is little information available regarding the Diablo project, but Cosby's confirmed involvement and open assurances seem promising. Fans will simply have to wait and see.
