2018 NBA 2K League Finals Recap
NEW YORK GRIT: When the lights are on the big stage, Knicks Gaming has continually found a way to shine the brightest. With a balanced offense and teamwork, the team fought through the adversity of starting the season 3-6 and became the inaugural NBA 2K League champions. In front of an electric crowd in the NBA 2K League Studio Powered by Intel, they swept Heat Check Gaming 2-0 in the NBA 2K League Finals, bringing the Knicks franchise their first championship since 1973.
A NEW YORK MINUTE: With 1:22 left in the game and the score 66-60 Heat Check Gaming, Nate “NateKahl” Kahl hit a three-pointer that changed the rest of the game. With 34 seconds left, Eric “YEYNotGaming” Ward hit another three-pointer that would give Knicks Gaming a 68-66 advantage and swing all momentum to New York. The shot gave New York its first lead of the game.
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARDS: When Heat Check Gaming came out playing exceptionally well on both sides of the ball in Game 2 and Adam “iamadamthe1st” Kudeimati struggled to find his three-point range early, Knicks Gaming looked like they were in trouble. However, their first-round pick Dayvon “Goofy757” Curry stepped up as he tallied a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Curry’s performance allowed New York to stay in the game and pull out the come-from-behind
victory. Curry hauled in three offensive rebounds in one possession, which set up Nate “NateKahl” Kahl’s clutch three-point basket.
DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS: The old adage proved to be true during the NBA 2K League
Finals when Finals MVP Nate “NateKahl” Kahl (right) was able to slow down scoring machine Juan
“Hotshot” Gonzalez just enough to get the victory. Coming into the NBA 2K League Finals, Gonzalez
was averaging 50.3 points per game in the playoffs. Kahl held Gonzalez to 44 points and 38 points
in the two-game sweep. Kahl also hit critical three-pointers down the stretch for Knicks Gaming.
