[LCK Summer Day 36 Review] Jin Air Defeats Griffin. Kingzone Adds a Win and Proceeds to Second Place

On the 31st of July (KST),  Jin Air Green Wings defeated Griffin and Kingzone DragonX defeated Hanwha Life Esports. With winning today's match, Jin Air got themselves a step closer to remaining in the LCK. With Griffin losing and Kingzone winning a match each, Kingzone proceeded to second place and is now tied with Griffin in Win-Loss record.

The first series was ‘Griffin vs. Jin Air Green Wings’.

On game 1, Griffin’s Viper once again used Teemo in bottom lane. Using the ‘Teemo-Soraka’ bot composition, they gained the early-game lane advantage. Although Jin Air secured the Rift Herald near the 10-minute mark, Griffin fired back with a mid dive from Sejuani-Orianna and gained first blood.

Griffin managed to snowball early. Soon after Tarzan’s successful top dive, Griffin’s laners started to dominate each matchup; Orianna began to widen the mid CS gap to 40 near the 15-minute mark.

With the game rather quiet, Griffin initiated a teamfight in mid lane. Using Sejuani and Orianna’s ultimate, they won the fight. Griffin slowly choked Jin Air. After destroying Jin Air’s mid/bottom turrets, Griffin pushed through the inhibitors and closed down the game.

Jin Air had a fresh start in game 2. UmTi, who was subbed in, succeeded an early mid gank using Trundle. Using their mid advantage, they soon slew the Rift Herald and destroyed Griffin’s mid tier 1 turret. Jin Air used the Herald on bottom lane and consecutively destroyed the opponent’s bot tier 1 and 2 turrets.

Griffin planned a top 3-man dive. However, Jin Air countered it and gained 2 more kills. With Jin Air gradually snowballing throughout the game, Griffin attempted a surprise Baron hunt. They seemed to safely secure the buff, but at the last second, Grace’s LeBlanc stole it. After gaining the buff, Jin Air destroyed Griffin’s inhibitors and tied the series.

In game 3, Griffin gained first blood by succeeding a bottom gank. Once knowing that Jin Air’s bottom champions lacked summoner spells, Griffin planned another bottom gank and killed both Tahm Kench and Jhin. However, at the same time, Jin Air’s Skarner-Orianna killed Zoe.

Although Jin Air had the advantage, Griffin managed to fight back by killing Orianna in mid lane. This led the team to destroy Jin Air’s bottom tier 1 turret. For a slight moment, Griffin seemed to snowball. However, Jin Air secured the Baron buff and started to dominate the game with Teddy’s Jhin hitting his power spikes. Near the 40-minute mark, Teddy managed to kill Lehends’ Morgana before a teamfight; it became a 5 vs 4 and Jin Air won the fight. Soon after it ended, Jin Air destroyed Griffin's Nexus.

For the second series of the day, Kingzone DragonX went against Hanwha Life Esports.

On game 1, Kingzone’s bottom composition seemed to aggressively pressure Hanwha’s bottom duo. Meanwhile, SeongHwan’s Trundle gained some points for Hanwha by succeeding a top gank. SeongHwan was exceptional on his Trundle; he was unstoppable. After his top gank, he ganked mid and bottom.

With SeongHwan impacting the whole game, Hanwha started to dominate the game. They secured most of the Rift objectives and soon destroyed Kingzone’s mid/bottom inhibitor. The highlight was when Hanwha killed Khan’s Gnar. After killing Khan, Hanwha ran straight for the Baron. After gaining the buff, they won the next teamfight and closed down the first game.

Hanwha gained first blood in game 2. Peanut’s Gragas ganked mid but Hanwha succeeded a counter-gank with help from their top/jungle. However, Kingzone recovered by succeeding the next mid gank. With Bdd’s Zoe gaining a kill, he started to dominate the mid lane matchup; the CS difference widened to 30 near the 10-minute mark.

Things went favorably for Kingzone after winng a mid skirmish. Eventually, Kingzone attempted a Baron hunt, but Jin Air’s Galio stole it with his Q skill. With the game becoming even, the two teams fought for the Elder Dragon. Kingzone won this huge teamfight and directly secured the Elder and the Baron buff. They soon destroyed Hanwha’s Nexus.

The series went to the third game. Kingzone started off fresh by gaining first blood in bottom lane. Bdd’s Aurelion Sol also gained some points for the team by securing a kill in top lane. With Kingzone snowballing throughout early game, Hanwha tried to give a last-minute struggle by initiating small skirmishes. However, the gap was already too big; Kingzone won most of the fights. After winning another huge teamfight, they closed down the series.
