Late Tuesday night, Chris "Huk" Loranger, the President of Gaming for the Kraft Group, announced via the O.W. Discord server that Boston Uprising would be conducting open tryouts for their Overwatch League and Academy teams.
"The Boston Uprising have always had a knack at identifying hidden talent, and growing that untapped potential. We believe that it has been this strength of ours that really brought home all of our success," wrote Huk.
"Applying that same philosophy, we’ve decided to conduct an open tryout process for both our OWL and Academy team. Any player who has achieved a Competitive Skill Rating of 4300 or higher during either Season 9, 10, or the current Season will be eligible to tryout. We will give all applicants a fair and unbiased review, and after carefully reviewing, we’ll decide what path would be the best fit for you. We wish all of you the best of luck, and hope to see you bring your very best to our tryouts. Please apply via the attached form."
The Uprising's existing Academy team, Toronto Esports, placed second in Season 1 of North American Contenders, while their Overwatch League team was recently eliminated in the inaugural season quarterfinals after a rollercoaster of a season. The latter's roster truly is comprised of diamonds in the rough and was consequently written off by the majority of pundits prior to the season's start. Since then, the Uprising has become something of a Cinderella story, completing the first perfect 10-0 stage in Overwatch League history and stunning fans time and time again with nailbiter 3-2 upsets.
Now, the Uprising are embracing their penchat for underdogs by scouting ladder talent. Within minutes of the announcement being made, Mohid "MrBleeple" Asjid, an analyst for the Boston Uprising, said the team was already flooded with applications.
Any players ranked 4300 or higher for the last three season who are interested in applying for the organization's League or Academy teams can do so here.
