Competitive Hearthstone takes patience, prediction and, most of all, discipline. Professional players grind through hundreds and hundreds of games preparing themselves for the dozens that really matter -- the ones on the main stage.
This weekend at Blizzard Arena LA, BunnyHoppor AKA "Ironman" for his stoic demeanor on stage, won a 3-1 series against the Polish player A83650. His victory earned the lion's share of the $250,000 prize pool that 16 players were fighting for.
The most valuable prizes at stake, however, were the four HCT World Championship spots up for grabs. Qualifying spots were rewarded to the top 4 competitors:
1st place - BunnyHoppor (Germany) |
$60,000 |
2nd place - A83650 (Poland) |
$40,000 |
3rd and 4th - killinallday (USA), Viper (Germany) |
$20,000 |
9th - 16th - Turna (Italy), XiaoT (China), Nalguidan (Argentina), Jinsoo (Korea) |
$12,500 |
Druid, Warlock, and Shaman decks were the most popular at the tournament, with the champion BunnyHoppor bringing variants of Shudderwock Shaman and Even Warlock. He also brought a Miracle Rogue deck that was nearly identical to A83650's. Only one card was different between the two decks: BunnyHoppor included one extra copy of Cold Blood while A83650 included a Questing Adventure.
