The Overwatch League Office issued Philadelphia Fusion’s Josue ‘Eqo’ Corona a $1,000 fine on April 4th due to the racist gesture he had made recently.
A controversy sparked when Eqo made a rather racist gesture making fun of Asians during his personal stream on April 1st; although it was later followed by an apology from Eqo and the Fusion, the controversy remained among the Overwatch community, where many argued that Eqo was well-deserving of a punishment.
Along with the fine issued by the OWL office, an additional punishment was executed by Fusion. Fusion announced that Eqo will be kept from playing in 3 games, will be given a $2,000 fine, and is forbidden from running personal streams until the regular season ends on July 17th.
Eqo, feeling responsible for his action, announced that he donated $3,000 to the ‘No Place for Hate Campaign’ by the Anti-Defamation League, while the Fusion announced they will be donating the $2,000 fine and an additional $5,000, making a total $10,000 donation.
