Former top laner for Afreeca Freecs, Jang ‘MaRin’ Gyeong-hwan, is on his way back to China.
MaRin’s transfer to the LPL was predictable. As the teams of NA and Korea quickly signed players, there were not many teams left for MaRin to play for. Naturally, he is now having discussions with connections in the Chinese league, whose transfer market is active relatively later than NA or Korea.
MaRin tried to find teams in Korea, like SKT T1, after leaving Afreeca Freecs. However, he wasn’t able to reach agreements due to salary and other reasons. Currently, it is said that MaRin is undergoing negotiations with one of China’s new teams. Therefore, the possibility of MaRin joining a Chinese team seems more likely by the day.
MaRin has already played in a Chinese team before: LGD Gaming, but he wasn’t able to get good results in China and in Korea afterwards as well. If MaRin plays in the Chinese league, he needs to prove himself worthy, because many say that MaRin’s performance isn’t as good as it used to be.
MaRin had his debut in SKT T1 as a top laner, won Worlds 2015 and became one of the world’s best top laners. After playing for SKT T1, he played for LGD Gaming and Afreeca Freecs.
