New York's Overwatch team aims higher -- Excelsior enters the OWL!

Today, the latest OWL team has been revealed, this time sporting a primarily blue color scheme with hints of red and black. Excelsior, derived from the Latin word for 'higher' may sound like a Harry Potter spell, but the significance behind the name is real for New York overwatch fans. According to the team's official press release, Excelsior alludes to the teams "extreme scale and boundless ambition".

"Excelsior represents the heroic optimism and positivity of Overwatch, a game that empowers everyone to become a hero. Within Excelsior is the abbreviation XL, which encapsulates New York at its most powerful: the city of more people, more fans, more creativity, more drive, more passion, and more soul"

While this description may be over the top for other cities, New York has earned it's larger than life reputation and is undoubtedly one of the most culturally relevant and important US cities in the world.  Team owner Fred Wilpon is also the owner of the New York Mets and it's easy to imagine the popularity of that brand spreading over to Excelsior in the long run. NYXL is a cool abbreviation that already seems to be going over well with the OWL fanbase.

The hype trailer released today is already getting people excited. Boston Uprising should take notes as a short and high production value trailer is much more effective than a cheaper, longer video.

The team roster is comprised of an all Korean line up of Overwatch pros and, while not at Seoul Dynasty level of power, is filled with veteran competitors like Janus, Mano, Pine and Libero:
