G2 has played their last Worlds match by defeating FB. Due to both RNG and SSG securing their spot in the quarterfinals, the outcome of this match had no actual effect on which team proceeds to the next step. But the two teams still played at their best and gave the fans a very entertaining game.
For most of the game, FB had their reins over G2, but in a miraculous way, G2 managed to make a comeback, despite having all three of their inhibitors down at one point. After the games, the players shed tears, as they won their game, but failed to reach quarters.
The fans cheered for G2 regardless of the team's final outcome, and G2's ADC, Zven, left his final words at Wuhan.
What would you like to say about today and in general, the whole experience?
This was a year where we could've shown something... but... I'm grateful for all the fans who are cheering for us. But also, I can't help but feel sorry for them. I'm really disappointed in myself. We were so close... and it just... sucks.
It was pretty unlucky when talking about the Group that you guys were placed in. But in the end, you guys had to beat anyone anyways to get far in the tournament. So does that help in any way? or is it a time for the team to regroup and look forward?
It's true that it doesn't really matter which group that you've been placed in because if your group is easy, you would end up getting stomped in quarters anyway. But I think we could've made it out of this group, as our 1st game against RNG was winnable, and so was our game against SSG. But we made one too many mistakes, and again, it just sucks.
Are there any final words for the fans of the G2 Army?
I'm really grateful for all the support that we got. For MSI and Worlds, it was really amazing to have people cheer for us. But also, I can't help but feel really sorry for them because we let them down. But thank you.
