Who’s in and who has an opportunity to make a push for the playoffs in the final week of the Overwatch Contenders? Granted, it’s been a rough season for many teams who were expected to finish in the top four with ease, but one or two finals games could be enough to seal the deal and punch their ticket to the offline finals at the grand opening of the Blizzard Arena in Los Angeles, California.

With this in mind, it’s important to remember that qualifying has everything to do with your series record and overall record. With your series record being the determining factor, there may be ties in the final standings. Ties will come down to who has more individual game victories and if both teams happen to have the same amount, they will play a single best of three on Ilios to determine the victor.

Europe

Misfits (6-0, 23-2) - Spot Secured

Remaining Games: eUnited

Misfits have undoubtedly had the best season in all of Contenders alongside North America’s Team EnVyUs, sitting with only two individual losses to GamersOrigin. This may be a little surprising given GamersOrigin may not even qualify for the postseason. With that in mind, Misfits have easily secured a top two seed and a win over a struggling eUnited team this weekend will guarantee them that position.

Team Gigantti (5-1, 16-8) - Spot Secured

Remaining Games: Bazooka Puppiez

A rough Season Zero was turned into something special for Team Gigantti, whose only series loss comes at the hands of Misfits in week two. As a clear favorite in the first round of the playoffs, I think they’ll still need to be cautious of their opponent. We’re not quite certain of who it will be just yet, but a rematch with 123 or Cloud9 could prove to be the most difficult as both teams did snag a game away from Gigantti in week four.

123 (3-2, 12-8) - Yet to Qualify

Remaining Games: Cloud9, GamersOrigin

Unlike several other teams in the running, 123’s fate rests in their own hands. They happen to be one of the teams that will be playing in two games this weekend against both Cloud9 and GamersOrigin. GamersOrigin have lost three straight series and a loss to eUnited would ensure 123 only needs to win one of their series to qualify. However, avoiding Misfits in the first round is the ideal goal for them, so they’ll need to come up with a few extra map victories to ensure they stay above Cloud9 and GamersOrigin.

Cloud 9 (3-2, 10-11) - Yet to Qualify

Remaining Games: 123, Team Singularity

Head-to-head matchups don’t matter when it comes to the final standings, meaning Cloud9 will need to edge out GamersOrigin if they happen to win both of their series. If GamersOrigin lose one series and Cloud9 wins one, they’ll have secured a spot in the playoffs. Though, pushing past 123 will prove to be more difficult as they’ll need to gain an additional two maps on them over eight total maps played. It’s certainly within their own power to do so given they play 123 and Singularity, a team we would expect to drop 0-4 to Cloud9.

GamersOrigin (2-3, 11-10) - Yet to Qualify

Remaining Games: eUnited, 123

Things are pretty simple for GamersOrigin who can turn their season around with two final series wins. After starting out 2-0, the last three weeks have not been kind to them as they continue to rely on Doomfist to pave the way to victory. With an 11-10 map score, they’re not sitting at a terrible position but matching up against 123 in their final series will tell the tale for who’s in and who’s out. GamersOrigin will need to get a little extra help if they happen to drop a series, as they would need either 123 or Cloud9 to lose alongside them to finish with a 3-3 record.

North America

Team EnVyUs (6-0, 22-2) - Spot Secured

Remaining Games: Rogue

With one series left against Rogue, EnVyUs are well on their way to the number one seed for North America. While it’s still possible for FaZe Clan to take the number one seed, it would need to be at the hands of an unlikely upset by Rogue, not allowing for EnVyUs to take more than a single game. Expect to see EnVyUs tearing them down this week and taking on EnVision or FNRGFE come October.

 FaZe Clan (5-1, 19-7) - Spot Secured

Remaining Games: EnVision

FaZe has secured a number two or three seed, which doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things as those two teams would end up playing each other regardless. With that in mind, EnVision will be coming at them with all they have this weekend, which could end up being a preview of a playoff match that’s yet to come in October.

EnVision (4-2, 15-9) - Yet to Qualify

Remaining Games: FaZe Clan

Having lost their last two series to FNRGFE and EnVyUs, this team still holds the key to their playoff spot. Fortunately for them, Rogue has to play EnVyUs which should guarantee their spot. Their only worry is FNRGFE who sits at 12-13 to EnVision’s 15-9. EnVision can secure their spot in the top three with only two wins against FaZe, without needing to win the entire series.

Rogue (3-3, 14-3) - Yet to Qualify

Remaining Games: EnVyUs

Rogue matches up with an impossible foe this week in EnVyUs. Should they manage to take down the giant, they would more than likely beat out FNRGFE or match up with them in a tiebreaker to determine who qualifies. Winning the series is not their only hope, however, as a little help from Renegades could go a long ways. Should FNRGFE not win at least two games in their match against Renegades, Rogue would manage to slip into the top four.

FNRGFE (3-3, 12-3) - Yet to Qualify

Remaining Games: Renegades

FNRGFE are sitting quite nicely with their final game of the season being against the last in the league. A win over Renegades with Rogue losing to EnVyUs would put them in the top four, but also pit them against EnVyUs in the first round of the playoffs. In order to avoid that situation, EnVision would need to lose all four games while FNRGFE will need to win at least three to force a tiebreaker. If EnVision wins one games, FNRGFE needs to win all four games to force a tiebreaker. Unfortunately for them, there are no other scenarios that would allow them to get inside of the top three, but qualifying is certainly their number one goal heading into the weekend.
