On Sept 13th, a new map preview video for Junkertown, Overwatch’s new Escort map, was released on the Official Overwatch Youtube Channel. The video features a detailed look at Junkertown, a behind-the-scenes stories on the development of the new map, and an announcement that Junkertown will be added to the live server on Sept 19th.
Junkertown, the former base of operation for Junkrat and Roadhog, will be an Escort Map like Watchpoint: Gibraltar, Dorado, and Route 66. The map was first revealed on August 22nd at Gamescom 2017 and became available in the PTR shortly after.
In the video, the devs revealed the background story of Junkertown and how the map was developed. Junkertown is a residential town built by the human race after a nuclear explosion that happened in the Omnium. Junkertown is now under the reign of “the Queen”, and Junkrat and Roadhog were kicked out of Junkertown for making the Queen angry.
Junkertown is still available to play in the PTR, which requires a legal Battle.Net account with Overwatch in order to be accessed. The PTR is only available for PC.
