Providing legal advisories to the players of KeSPA’s official e-Sports titles in boundaries of both pro-amateur players
Expecting legal protections of e-Sports players and preventing illegal agent activity
Korea e-Sports Association (KOREA e-SPORTS ASSOCIATION, www.e-sports.or.kr) signed an official legal advisory memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Legacy Pro Law, a law firm based in United States on September 5th, 2017.
The ceremony was attended by Mansoo Cho, Secretary General of Korea e-Sports Association, and Ginam Lee, Principal Attorney of Legacy Pro Law and the two entities signed an official legal advisory MOU in the purpose of protecting the rights and interests of Korean e-Sports players.
With this MOU, Korea e-Sports Association plans to provide legal advisory to e-Sports players who need legal advice on visa, tax, contracts, etc. among the players of KeSPA’s official e-Sports titles. Furthermore, pro players in the international scene in addition to the amateur players will be also able to receive the legal services. However, players affiliated in official teams will need additional team approval procedure, and for amateur players, registered e-Sports players on this year’s upcoming tryout will be the first phase subject on the legal advisory services.
Throughout this MOU, KeSPA expects that e-Sport players will actively participate in e-Sports activities under the protection of the law and prevent any damages caused by illegal agents.
Meanwhile, Legacy Pro Law is a Los Angeles based law firm that mainly deals with copyright, entertainment, and licensing.
Ginam Lee, a Principal Attorney of Legacy Pro Law stated, “This MOU is very meaningful for us because it allows Legacy Pro Law to help Korean players to do their best in the global league. We believe that our legal expertise and experience will contribute to the successful global expansion of the players.”
Mansoo Cho, Secretary General of Korea e-Sports Association stated, “I am glad that this agreement will help Korean top players to play safely within the boundaries of the law. I hope that many players who are in need of legal advisory receive support through our services. In the future, KeSPA will do its best on protecting the rights and interests of not only pros but amateur players as well.
