Phantom Blade Zero passed 680,000 concurrent players on Steam on October 29th, around 11 hours after S-GAME's kungfupunk action game went live.

Valve's public player-count data for the game showed 684,297 people playing at once at 6:11 AM PT / 1:11 PM UTC. That was well above the 431,541 that tracking site SteamDB posted on X (formerly Twitter) about seven hours earlier, when the game's Steam user rating stood at 76.26%.

The figures only cover Steam. S-GAME has not shared player numbers for PlayStation 5 (PS5) or other PC storefronts, and the studio had not commented on the Steam count at the time of writing. By 9:20 AM PT, as evening turned to night in China, the live count had eased to about 470,000.

A strong first day

The game went live on October 28th at 7 PM PT (October 29th at 10 AM Beijing Time) as a digital release on PC and PS5, with a boxed PS5 edition following in 2027. Inven reported earlier that it passed 400,000 concurrent players within an hour of release. On Steam, the count kept climbing well into the Chinese evening.

What Phantom Blade Zero is

Built on Unreal Engine 5 by Chinese studio S-GAME, Phantom Blade Zero follows Soul, a warrior framed for the murder of his master. According to its Steam store page, a wound to the heart leaves him with 66 days to live as he chases a conspiracy across the Wulin, the martial world of wuxia fiction.

The store page lists more than 30 primary weapons and over 20 'Phantom Edges' taken from fallen enemies. It also says martial arts choreographers from the golden age of wuxia cinema worked on the motion capture. S-GAME describes the setting as 'kungfupunk', mixing traditional Chinese looks with mechanical prosthetics, industrial ruins and rock music, and the page quotes review scores of 9/10 from IGN and GamesRadar+ and 10/10 from Wccftech.
