Blizzard Entertainment released further information regarding their 'Overwatch League' on their official website. The information regards how players will be selected, the benefits and the amount of pay a player will receive, and how teams will be managed.
From August 1st to October 30th, an official period of contracting players for the 1st season of OWL will take place. During this period, teams will be able to employ players for their roster. As for the players, after signing a contract with a team, they will have to receive confirmation from the League itself to qualify. However, this system will only apply for season 1, and a better system will be implemented for future seasons.
According to the given information, the players will be signing a 1-year contract with the option of being able to sign for one more. Also, the players will be paid at the minimum of approximately, 50,000 USD a year. This includes health insurance and retirement benefits(severance pay). And during an ongoing season, proper accommodations and practice areas will be provided for the players at all cost. Also, Including tournament winnings, at least 50% of any "bonus money" that the team makes due to players' performances, will be split between the players.
Every team will have a player roster of least 6 players, and at most 12. There will be no limitations regarding the region of where the players are from, so any player from any region will be able to join any team.
OWL is set to begin near the end of this year.
