SteamDolls, a new stealth-lite action platformer from French-Belgian developer The Shady Gentleman, launched today into Steam Early Access. The game is available for $19.99—or the regional equivalent—with a 15% discount offered during its first two weeks.

The title invites players to assume the role of The Whisper, a bloodthirsty and irreverent character voiced by David Hayter, as he navigates a sprawling steampunk city on the brink of anarchy. Players must balance stealth with brutal combat as they explore a world rendered in a comic book–inspired 2D-meets-3D style. The game’s environments include diverse settings such as an overgrown chapel, a grim underbelly reminiscent of living flesh, an electrified industrial bunker, and a city afflicted by an insect-like infection.

SteamDolls launches with approximately six chapters, offering an estimated five to seven hours of gameplay. A free demo—featuring the introductory sequence—is available to give players a taste of the game’s unique blend of stealth, platforming, and visceral action. The game supports English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish at launch, and the developers are actively seeking player feedback to refine mechanics, balance, and content ahead of the full 1.0 release.

Originally teased in 2019 and based on a graphic novel developed by the studio, SteamDolls marks a long-held passion project for its creators. The game reunites several well-known voice talents, including Hayter alongside Christopher Randolph and Jennifer Hale, lending the project a level of pedigree that fans of the genre will recognize. Prior to its digital debut, the title was successfully kickstarted, reflecting its evolution from a comic book concept to a fully realized interactive experience.

The game also features hand-drawn cutscenes intermingled with 3D cinematic inserts, detailed skill trees for upgrading The Whisper’s abilities, and a customizable home base where players can display trophies and unlock additional lore.
