On Jun. 9, in the 2023 LCK Summer Split, Gen.G defeated KT Rolster 2-1 and collected their first win of the season. Although they lost game 1, Gen.G maintained their focus well and won games 2 and 3. After the match, head coach Go “Score” Dong-bin and mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon joined the media to talk about the match.
Congrats on winning the first match of the season. How do you feel?
Score: Although we lost game 1 today, we had clean wins in the following two games, so I feel good.
Chovy: The first match was the standard of whether or not we could do well in the season. I’m happy that we were able to finish today with a win.
What was regretful about game 1?
Score: Our planning and shotcalls for the first dragon and Rift Herald were good, but we didn’t fight well enough. That was the biggest regret.
Some fans were worried that there could be aftereffects of MSI. What do you think?
Score: At first, I was also worried about the aftereffects of the MSI, but the players worked hard, and as soon as we started scrims, their hard work showed through results. Game 1 was difficult today, but after seeing them dominate games 2 and 3, I don’t think we need to worry.
Could Gragas mid be considered a hidden card for Gen.G?
Score: Chovy played Gragas a lot, but regardless of Gragas, Chovy’s current form is amazing right now. He plays well whatever we give him. His form is our hidden card.
(To Chovy) Are you all set from the beginning of the season?
Chovy: I think my tier list of the mid lane champions is complete. There are several champions that could be banned, but I have more cards prepared, so I believe I can start with the upper hand in most of the games. I have high expectations this season.
You had less time to prepare. How did you prepare?
Chovy: It’s true that I had less time, but I practiced hard and I think I adapted quickly.
Compared to MSI, how much did the meta change?
Score: Overall, it doesn’t seem that it changed much, but looking at the details while scrimming, it’s a bit different. The biggest change is Yuumi and Milio.
Your next match will be against T1. How do you think it’ll go?
Score: Whenever we play against T1, I feel anxious because I know they’re a strong team. But since our scrims and practice is going really well, I’m confident. I’ll make sure that we win.
Chovy: We’ve been doing well in scrims, and our performance today was good too. If we can keep our current pace, we won’t have much trouble winning.
How do you feel about being picked on the national team for the Asian Games?
Chovy: Obviously, I’m happy that such an opportunity has come upon me, but there’s also pressure at the same time. I’ve been working hard so that I can do well.
