The Worlds 2022 finals had an anime plot until the very end. The plot armor for both T1 and DRX stayed strong until the very end, but it was DRX that took the 3-2 victory. The 2022 ONEPLUS Finals MVP was named to be Hwang “Kingen” Sung-hoon.
He shared his thoughts with Sjokz and Jeesun Park on being named the 2022 ONEPLUS Finals MVP.
Did you expect to be selected as the ONEPLUS Finals MVP?
I did. It feels like I awakened this duelist mindset in game 4 and 5, where I felt I was either going to die if I didn’t kill my enemies. Playing with such a beast mentality made me tap into my potential.
Many have doubted you over this past year. How do you look back on your 2022 journey?
I’m the type to really think about what I do and have a tendency to hesitate on punching the gun, so that’s why there were so many moments where fans were disappointed during the regular season. However, coming into this year’s Worlds, Ssong told me that people who hesitate lose in the world of competition. It’s not like I don’t think before I act, but hearing those words from him really affected my gameplay in a positive way, and that’s why I was able to make it all the way here.
What would you like to say to all those at DRX who’s helped you perform at your best?\
This may sound very boring, but to my parents and my grandparents, they all watched me from the beginning, so I want to especially thank them. The same gratitude goes to all the fans as well. I thought I’d be able to pull off a great speech when push came to shove, but it seems that’s not the case [laughter]. I also want to thank all those around me for being so patient. I may have won this year, but I’ll head into next year with the mindset of a student and not get complacent. Thank you.
