On May 2nd (local time), Meta Athena defeated BK Stars 3-1 in the second match of Day 2 of Ro16 Overwatch APEX Season 3 held in Sangam OGN eStadium, Korea. In this close series, Mata Athena was the one that came out on top by the smallest margin as Jeong Woo “Sayaplayer” Ha was there to pull off effective kills in critical moments.
Below is the post-match press interview with Sayaplayer.
How do you feel about the today’s win?
I’ve often heard people say that we’ve lost our form. I was quite worried, but it feels good to start the season with a win.
It was a close series today. How would you reflect on the match?
Even though it was close, our performance wasn’t clean. I’m sure it must’ve been fun to watch the today’s match from a spectator’s point.
What would you say you need to improve based on the today’s match?
Personally, I wasn't able to reliably land Tracer’s Pulse Bomb, and my Soldier: 76’s survivability left much to be desired. Looking at the team as a whole, we weren’t properly prepared against dive comps and against Sombra.
What are your thoughts on Sombra who often sees play in recent days?
Sombra got us good in many scrim sessions. We didn’t yet find a perfect solution for her because we’re still working to fully explore our feedback as a team.
How did it feel to face Carpe as a one DPS player against another?
I’ve often heard that Carpe was the king of Competitive Play. Before the match, some people in the team wondered who had the upper hand. I didn’t much care for it though and spent more energy on working together as a team.
How’s the vibe within the team like these days?
After Season 2 has completed, it wasn’t so good heading into Season 3 because we weren’t doing well in scrims and struggled against dive-heavy, 3 DPS meta. Fortunately, it’s improving as we continue to practice. We played the today’s match in an upbeat mood.
What’s your goal for the season?
I want to say winning the tournament, but, realistically speaking, I’m aiming for quarterfinals.
Anything else you’d like to say?
Our showings weren’t so good today. We’ll push ourselves harder to come back next time with better plays.
