MrBeast claims he should be able to use music without consequence due to large following

Multi-millionaire philanthropist content creator Jimmy "MrBeast" Donaldson has stirred up some controversy on Twitter after claiming that YouTubers should be able to use music without getting a copyright strike.

MrBeast explained that major music labels should stop copyright striking YouTubers who can get their signed artists "10s of billions of impressions" on their songs.

This is not a new opinion from top streamers and content creators on Twitch and YouTube. In the past, other popular influencers have voiced frustrations with getting copyright striked, including Nicholas “NICKMERCS” Kolcheff, who claimed that artists should "stop acting like they are Drake" and be grateful for their songs being used in videos.

The topic has been brought up again by MrBeast over a year later. The responses were mixed once again. Some fans felt that MrBeast had a point while others questioned why the millionaire refused to pay for the rights to the music he wanted to use.

One follower asked: "While that's actually probably the most financially profitable route for mid-sized music labels, what's stopping big YouTubers who make millions of dollars from going the proper avenues to license their music or reaching out to musicians to create custom content themselves?"

MrBeast responded to critics, however, with a sarcastic rebuttal. It's clear that MrBeast feels that big content creators should be able to use any music they want due to their massive audience. MrBeast's videos get tens of millions of views, which are a lot of eyes. But this actually takes away from an artist's impressions since viewership goes to the streamer instead of on the artist's music video. It's also still considered "stealing" no matter the size of the influencer, making it a form of exploitation to use the songs for free.

Fans of MrBeast and other large content creators are still confused by the situation, however. Why can video games be streamed without issue but a song can't be used? The simple answer is that video game publishers have allowed game content to be streamed whereas record labels and artists have not allowed their music to be used. This is because watching someone play a game does not replace purchasing it and playing it yourself. If anything, it can inspire fans to buy the game.

But even if you feel that music should be free to use, the fact is that it's currently illegal to stream it without permission — no matter the size of the content creator.
