On May 3, Cloud9 announced the release of top laner Park “Summit” Woo-tae, Kim “Winsome” Dong-keun, and Jonah “Isles” Rosario.
Summit’s a top laner who spent most of his competitive career in the LCK, with Afreeca Freecs [now known as Kwandong Freecs] and Liiv SANDBOX. He was personally brought onto the team per request by former head coach Nicholas “LS” De Cesare in the beginning of the 2022 season. While he was praised for his performance, especially earlier in the split, many people criticized him for his decline in performance towards the latter half of the season.
Winsome and Isles were the two support players for C9’s LCS & LCS Academy team. Winsome was brought onto the C9 roster for the 2022 season after his tenure with Shadow Battlica, a team that played on the LCK Academy series, while Isles was brought onto the C9 rosters in Nov 2020 for the start of the 2021 season on LCS Academy.
Multiple reports sourced that the team's mid laner, Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami is going to head back to top lane, and that Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen was to return to the team as the starting mid laner for the team. As C9 got knocked out by EG in round 2 of the 2022 LCS Spring playoffs, whether or not this roster revamp will work remains to be seen.
