Victory Five has picked up its first win in the 2022 LPL Spring Split playoffs. After being kicked down to the lower bracket by Top Esports last Tuesday, the squad bounced back and beat JD Gaming with a 3-1 score. With the victory, V5 secured a top-three position in the LPL playoffs while JDG's journey comes to an end.
The series began with a setback for Victory Five. JD Gaming opened strong. Their composition, comprised of often-seen champions with Jayce top, Viego jungle, Viktor mid, and Jinx bot, outscaled Victory Five massively. While the game went even for the first fifteen minutes, JD Gaming managed to extend their lead gradually in a bloodbath of a match. That initial setback awoke the beast in V5, though. In the second game, they shredded JDG to pieces, never losing control over the game.
Game three was a nailbiter, but it all came down to just two players on the map. On JD Gaming's side, top laner Bai "369" Jia-Hao was doing everything in his might to carry his team to success. But Victory Five had Hung "Karsa" Hao-Hsuan in the jungle, who simply refused to let his team lose. With a record-breaking performance, he put V5 on series point. It appeared to have broken JD Gaming, who were a shell of their former selves in the fourth game. In just 24 minutes, Victory Five walked over their opponents and closed out the series.
Victory Five now advances to the lower bracket semifinal of the LPL Spring Split playoffs. There, they'll either be met by the loser of the series between Top Esports or Royal Never Give Up, who face each other on Sunday, April 17. The grand finals of the LPL Spring Playoffs are held next week, on April 23, to determine which team will represent the league at the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational in Busan.
