Misfits Gaming mid laner Vincent "Vetheo" Berrié has won the MVP of the Regular Split award in the Spring season. The young Frenchman earned the trophy after being a hard-carry for his team during the eight weeks of the competition, bringing his team to third place in the standings.
From the start of the split, Vetheo led Misfits by example. Although he sometimes struggled to keep up in the laning phase, come mid game and late game he tore his opposition to shreds. From Akali to Syndra and from Sylas to Viktor, Vetheo's large champion pool enabled Misfits to always find him a fitting pick to carry the game. Even in the losses Misfits suffered, Vetheo still was one of the best-performing players on the map.
Vetheo joined Misfits in the LEC in 2021 and immediately made his name known. In his very first game, against Fnatic, he popped off on his pocket pick Zoe and danced circles around his enemies. However, the rest of the year would be quieter for Vetheo as he struggled to find the same performances with other champions. By the end of the year he had improved, but was still a middle-of-the-pack mid laner.
In an interview, Misfits' Director of Gaming Europe Martin "Deficio" Lynge said that a bootcamp helped Vetheo a lot to become the player he was in Spring 2022, "The moment we hit the offseason, the first thing he said to us was: "I want to go to Korea, please let's set up a bootcamp. I just wanna go." He comes back in the preseason and he just dumpsters people."
A close race with Hylissang
The race for the MVP of the Split award was extremely close this time around. Zdravets "Hylissang" Galabov, support player for Fnatic, finished in second place. On Twitter, LEC video producer Renato "Shakarez" Perdigão shared the point distribution as voted by the panel of experts. Vetheo had accumulated 126 points through the voting, while Hylissang was just three points off with 123 points in total. Rogue jungler Kim "Malrang" Geun-seong picked up bronze with 25 points.
Earlier, the LEC handed out all its other awards for the regular Spring Split. Misfits jungler Lucjan "Shlatan" Ahmad won the Rookie of the Split award. The Coaching Staff of the Split award was won by Rogue, who finished the regular split in first place. The LEC also crowned its All-Pro team, with Odoamne, Malrang, Vetheo, Upset, and Hylissang on the roster.
There is one more award the LEC will hand out: the LEC Spring Finals MVP. At the end of the grand finals this Sunday, April 10, a small panel of experts will determine which player performed best in the series.
