LCK Spring Finals preview: T1's 'V10' vs Gen.G's very first LCK championship

‘V10’ vs ‘First LCK Title’. On Apr 2, T1 will be facing Gen.G for the title of being the best team in the 2022 LCK Spring Finals, at KINTEX, Ilsan. After defeating Kwangdong Freecs 3-0 in round 2 of the playoffs, T1 was the first team to punch their ticket to the finals, with Gen.G punching in the other ticket after a heated series against DWG KIA. T1 looks to capture their 10th LCK title, while Gen.G looks to capture their very first as an organization.

‘V10’! T1 looks to set a new record once again, but this time, their 10th LCK title is on the line.

T1 is the team that has won the most LCK titles out of any other teams in the LCK. From winning their very first championship against KT Rolster Bullets in 2013 Summer, they’ve managed to gather nine titles in the LCK. The last time they played on the finals stage was in the 2021 Summer Finals, where they fell to DWG KIA 1-3.

This split, T1 set a new unprecedented record by going undefeated [18-0]. There has not been a single team that went undefeated since the LCK switched to a double Round Robin format. They beat their old record from 2015 Summer of 17-1, and due to how clean their victory was against Kwangdong Freecs in round 2 playoffs, many experts and analysts are predicting T1’s 10th LCK championship victory.

If T1 wins, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok will become the first professional player to get 10 LCK titles under his belt. Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun became the first coach to win 10 LCK titles, after DWG KIA defeated T1 in the 2021 Summer Finals.

For the other four starting members on T1, winning the upcoming Spring Finals will mean that they’ll capture the LCK title for the very first time in their careers. Ryu “Keria” Min-seok finished runner-up twice, under DRX in 2020 Summer and with T1 [alongside Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong & Moon “Oner” Hyeon-joon] in 2021 Summer. Choi “Zeus” Woo-je will be competing in his very first finals on Apr 2.

Gen.G’s playing in their 3rd consecutive Spring Finals. Will the third time turn out to be the charm?

While T1 looks incredibly strong this Spring split, Gen.G, consisting of superstar players in their starting roster, are also looking very strong this split. The both recent times that they’ve made it to the finals was during the Spring split, where they finished runner-up in both splits.

After undergoing a massive roster revamp with the exception of their franchise star, Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk, they’ve created another roster that can be considered another ‘superteam’ roster. Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, Han “Peanut” Wang-ho, Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon, and Son “Lehends” Si-woo have filled the empty spots in their rosters, and with Go “Score” Dong-bin and Won “Mafa” Sang-yeon joining the coaching staff, it’s a roster that seemed unparalleled in the beginning of the split.

Due to members of Gen.G catching COVID, Gen.G wasn’t able to field their full starting roster against T1 in both round 1 & 2 of the regular split. Although all members on Gen.G have extensive careers under their belts, only Peanut has experienced what it’s like to win an LCK Championship. Will they be able to beat T1 and finally capture their first LCK title?
