Hungrybox Coinbox tourney series has paid over $69K to players and casters

When Hungrybox announced the start of his Coinbox tournament earlier this year, the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate community applauded the series for offering a cash prize every week for the entirety of 2022. It appears that Coinbox was a big success so far.

According to Hungrybox, the Coinbox series has paid over $69,000 to players, casters, and staff thus far. Nice. And it's only March. Hungrybox said that he plans to "double" the number over the rest of the year.

Hungrybox announced on March 25 that he has become an official ambassador for Coinbase, the crypto company sponsoring Coinbox. While many are skeptical about cryptocurrency and its involvement in the esports scene, Hungrybox made it clear what he planned to do as a Coinbase ambassador.

"I will create more avenues for player and caster and TO support in the Smash scene, alongside general education with Team Liquid," Hungrybox explained.

This doesn't erase the concerns that many have about Coinbase, a cryptocurrency exchange program. But there is no denying Hungrybox's continued support of the grassroots Smash scene, often using his status in the community to create opportunities for other players, from supporting BaseMage's journey to Summit 4 to calling out Nintendo at the Streamer Awards. And of course, the Coinbox series.
