In match 1 of day 18, 2022 LCK Spring split, Fredit BRION defeated Nongshim RedForce 2-1, marking their first match win streak of the split. They took a commanding victory in game 1 with a surprise Veigar pick, but were not able to overcome NS’ tenaciousness in game 2. However, they quickly bounced back in game 3, fixing their mistakes from their previous game, earning themselves another victory in the split.
After the match, mid laner Kim “Lava” Tae-hoon spoke about his victory in a post-match interview, stating “It’s good to win a match after the long break, but it’s disappointing that our victory wasn’t as clean as we hoped it would be, especially against NS’ line-up that had emergency call ups from their CL roster.”
He spoke about his surprise Veigar pick in game 1. “[Veigar] did get buffed in patch 12.2, and I think he’s a good fit in the current competitive meta. I practiced him in solo queue, and performed well with him in scrims as well.”
He also spoke about his Dead Man’s Plate purchase on Veigar, stating that “It’s efficient on him because Veigar rarely auto attacks. The increased move speed really pressures the enemy, while also helping him survive. It’s not an item that you normally buy on Veigar, but depending on the enemy team comp, it can be a great item on him. I’ve always thought about buying the item on him, and felt that tonight’s match seemed like a great time to buy it.”
When asked about his improved performance, he said, “I think every LCK mid laner is very good. In the past, because I was the worst mid laner, my goal was to beat them one by one and increase my worth as a player, while having fun at the same time. I still have a long way to go, so I’m working hard to improve.”
He was also very honest about the team’s weaknesses in the mid-late game. “Even today, we made a lot of big mistakes. We’re all working hard to fix those issues.” Lava closed the interview by thanking his fans, and to “Stay safe from COVID, and be healthy. We’ll make sure to win our next match as well.”
