On April 19th (PST), Riot Games have announced the groups for the Play-in Stage of 2017 Mid-Season Invitational, which will take place in Brazil from April 28th to May 21st.

Group A will consist of:
- Red Canids (BR)
- Dire Wolves (OCE)
- SuperMassive eSports or Oyunfor.CREW (TUR, TBD on April 22th)
- Rampage (JPN)

and, Group B will consist of:
- Virtus.Pro from (CIS)
- Lyon Gaming (LAN)
- Isurus Gaming (LAS)
- Gigabyte Marines (SEA)

Only one team from each groups will advance to the second round of the Play-in Stage, where they'll be joined by a team from NA and TW/HK/MO. Winners of the second round will advance to the Group Stage, while losers will have another chance to advance to the Group Stage in an elimination match.

Afterwards, the top 3 teams from the Play-in Stage and the teams from South Korea, Europe and China will compete in the Group Stage; and the top 4 teams from the Group Stage will advance to the Knock-out Stage where the best team among the all 13 regions will be decided.
