On Jan. 14, in the 2022 League of Legends Champions Korea Spring Split, Gen.G faced DRX and Fredit BRION played T1. Gen.G swept DRX with ease in the first game and T1 defeated Fredit BRION 2-1 after a fierce battle.
Keeping up with the high expectations towards their roster, Gen.G dominated DRX from beginning to end. In game 1, Gen.G picked Tryndamere and Viego in their top and jungle. While DRX wasn't able to do much, Gen.G collected kills in the top and bot lanes. From mid-game, Gen.G started to speed up. Choi "Doran" Hyeon-joon's Tryndamere played well in the side lanes and Han "Peanut" Wang-ho's Viego dominated the teamfights. DRX tried to stop Gen.G from taking the dragon soul, but Gen.G easily collected an Ace and finished the game before 30 minutes.
DRX had first laughs in game 2, as they took first blood. However, Gen.G's bot lane demolished DRX's bot lane, which gave Gen.G a huge lead. From that point on, Gen.G went ahead in all lanes. DRX collected a few kills in an attempt to come back, but it wasn't enough as Gen.G spurted forward at full speed. Gen.G started the season with a clean 2-0 victory. During Gen.G's win, Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon collected his 1,100th LCK kill.
Fredit BRION took T1 for surprise as they took the win. The two teams were close throughout the game — Fredit BRION was ahead in kills and dragons while T1 maintained a small global gold lead. As the game went on, Fredit BRION collected the dragon soul. The game was decided at the dance around the Elder dragon, where Fredit BRION won. After slaying T1’s champions, Fredit BRION moved on to destroy T1’s Nexus.
The game was similar in game 2 as well. T1 pushed ahead through their macro regardless of the kill score, but they weren’t able to throw a critical strike. Although T1 kept pushing forward, Fredit BRION maintained the balance through two Baron steals. This made the game go on for a long time. However, after T1 secured the Mountain dragon’s soul, the gap was too big to close.
Up to mid-game, T1 took a bigger lead than in the previous games. Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok was finally able to pick Vex, which played a major role in the game. Fredit BRION’s only hope was Kim “Lava” Tae-hoon’s Corki, who was marked thoroughly by Faker’s Vex. Meanwhile, Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong’s Aphelios saved T1 from all crises as T1 secured their second win of the season.
