Mikyx hasn't found a team for 2022, despite largely decreased buyout

Where Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle will compete in 2022 is unknown. According to a tweet posted on the superstar Support player's social media, he was unable to find a team for 2022 spring season, and will spend time streaming instead. The news comes after his departure from the G2 Esports following a disappointing 2021 performance.

Following the post, a reply came from team owner Carlos Rodriguez that they had lowered the buyout to €250,000 three weeks prior, but were unable to find a buyer. According to Dot Esports' Pablo "Bloop" Suarez, the initial buyout for Mikyx was €1,500,000

The news comes after a recent trend of talented and accomplished players unable to find teams in the major western leagues. Because of very high buyout amounts, players such as Yasin "Nisqy" Dinçer, Martin "Rekkles" Larsson, and Nicolaj "Jensen" Jensen were unable to find teams neither in the LCS or LEC going into 2022.

Mikyx has been a long-time fixture in the European League of Legends scene — one of the most talented and decorated players in western League of Legends. Originally playing for a minor team known as Bottled Water, he began playing with teams such as Fnatic, Splyce, and Misfits Gaming. Playing with G2, he helped the team become one of the longest running dynasties in the games history. He has been voted to Europe's All-Pro Team nine times — five times to the 1st All-Pro Team. Team accomplishments include several domestic championships, a semifinal run at 2020 Worlds, a finals run at the Worlds 2019, and a win at Mid-Season Invitational 2019.

After dominating the LEC for two years, G2 paired Rekkles with Mikyx in the bottom lane, leading to a third place finish in LEC Spring 2021, and fourth place finish at LEC Summer 2021. Filling in his spot on G2 in 2022 will be former Karmine Corp player Raphaël "Targamas" Crabbé.
