Korean esports team DRX has decided on their roster for the 2022 LCK season.
According to an announcement on Naver, top laner Hwang "Kingen" Seong-hoon and jungler Hong "Pyosik" Chang-hyeon will be returning to DRX. Additionally, they will have the young talent Kim "Zeka" Geon-woo in the mid lane, veteran Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu as AD carry, and former-World Champion Cho "BeryL" Geon-hee as Support. As a support staff, the team has signed Kim "Kim" Jeong-soo, Sin "Shine" Dong-wook, and Lee "Mowgli" Jae-ha as coaches.
The news gives DRX a drastically different roster than this year and provides an interesting team to several longtime players of the game. After a decent showing in the regular season of LCK 2021 Spring, DRX shrunk in the playoffs with a 1-3 loss to T1, later becoming one of the worst teams in LCK 2021 Summer with a 2-16 record. The signings show an investment in both rookie and veteran talent.
Zeka has competed as a mid laner in China for the past two years — most recently competing with Bilibili Gaming. The team had a decent 10-6 record in the regular season of LPL 2021 Summer, but were swept in the playoffs to Team WE. Deft has been a long-term fixture in the competitive scene — winning several domestic championships in China and Korea, an MSI, and being considered one of the best AD carries in history. After a difficult 2021, he attended Worlds with Hanwha Life Esports. The signing see Deft return to DRX after previously playing with them for two years.
BeryL most recently competed with DWG KIA in the Worlds Finals. Although winning some of the most prestigious competitions in the world over the last two years, he was considerd one of the weak links on the team. The signing of "Coach Kim" to Head Coach sees him returning to Korea after a year in the LPL.
