In September, Niantic revealed the confined form of Hoopa in Pokemon GO. Now, its unbound form is available too. The unbound form of Hoopa has an attack stat of 311, which is higher than that of Mewtwo (300). Unbound Hoopa’s CP maxes out at 4,006 at Lv. 40 and 4,530 at Lv. 50, which is quite massive.

To gain Unbound Hoopa, you’ll need confined Hoopa (obviously), 50 Hoopa candy, and 10,000 Stardust. To revert it back to its confined form, you need 10 Hoopa candy and 2,000 Stardust. The new research, Mischief Unbound, has three steps of quests to complete. By completing the research, you’ll have enough Hoopa Candy and Stardust to turn your Hoopa into its Unbound form.

Mischief Unbound (1/3)

• Take a snapshot of Hoopa — 1,000 Stardust
• Catch 20 Pokemon — 1x Lucky Egg
• Spin three Pokestops or Gyms — 3,000 XP

Rewards: 1x Incense, 1x Poffin, 3x Golden Razz Berry

Mischief Unbound (2/3)

• Make seven curveball throws in a row — 1,500 Stardust
• Use 20 berries to help catch Pokemon — 1x Star Piece
• Complete 10 field research tasks — 3,000 XP

Rewards: 1x Incense, 1x Super Incubator, 3x Silver Pinap Berry

Mischief Unbound (3/3)

• Earn seven Hearts with your buddy — 2,000 Stardust
• Catch 20 different species of Pokemon — 3x Premium Battle Pass
• Win three raids — 4,000 XP

Rewards: 50x Hoopa Candy, 10,000 Stardust, Hoopa T-shirt

Best moves for Unbound Hoopa

While Confined Hoopa is a Psychic/Ghost-type Pokemon, Unbound Hoopa turns into a Psychic/Dark-type Pokemon — eliminating its resistance against Fighting-type Pokemon. It also loses the same-type attack bonus (STAB) of Shadow Ball. However, it’s still quite strong as a Psychic-type attacker in raids due to its massive attack stat.

The fast moves Unbound Hoopa can learn are Confusion (Psychic) and Astonish (Ghost). Astonish is rather a poor move in Pokemon GO, so the go-to pick for Unbound Hoopa would be Confusion. It has much better DPS as Unbound Hoopa can benefit from STAB.

The available charged moves at the moment are Dark Pulse (Dark), Shadow Ball (Ghost), and Psychic (Psychic). Although Shadow Ball is a great skill in the game, the best move is Psychic, as it can benefit from STAB as well.

However, using Astonish and Shadow Ball or Dark Pulse isn’t completely useless, as it can become a strong choice in Psychic or Ghost-type raids.
