UPDATE Nov. 26: Two days after responding to Adam, Upset made another post via Twitter sharing more of his thoughts after having a chance to reflect on the situation and how it played out. In the post, Upset confirmed he'd be staying with Fnatic for LEC 2022.
UPDATED Nov. 24: Upset has posted a Twitlonger of his own following Adam's Twitlonger. In the Twitlonger, Upset states that he has kept personal matters private from the team because of their emotional nature, and that he told the full details to Fnatic head coach Jakob "YamatoCannon" Mebdi and support Zdravets "Hylissang" Iliev Galabov because of his close emotional connection to them.
However, Upset said that he was not as familiar with his other teammates and Adam's recent assumptions had confirmed that he was glad he had not told him the details. The Fnatic AD carry said he was surprised at the amount of hate Adam had directed towards him, especially what was said about Upset's work ethic. Upset said that he would not comment on his playing experience with Adam further.
In addition, Upset clarified that he had been completely transparent with his teammates in a competitive context and that Fnatic had asked him to reach out to Alphari after a personal conversation between Upset and Alphari, who were former teammates on Origen, had confirmed Alphari was not looking to stay with Team Liquid.
Original story:
Fnatic was a promising team going into Worlds 2021 but the unexpected departure of Elias "Upset" Lipp less than a day before competition started, their run in Iceland was short. Fnatic have since collapsed as a team and Zdravets "Hylissang" Galabov and Upset, remaining with the organization. Over a month later, their former top laner Adam "Adam" Maanane has given some insight on what happened within Fnatic as well as some serious criticism toward how justified Upset’s sudden departure was.
Adam on Upset's Worlds departure
Adam put together a lengthy Twitlonger that focuses on his experience with the team, and his dissatisfaction with their Worlds run as a whole. On Upset’s departure, Adam wrote:
“There's nothing urgent because otherwise he [Upset] would have told us. And personally, I don't give a damn about the privacy reason when I worked, we all worked hard for 1 year to reach the Worlds. Knowing that even the management of Fnatic still doesn't know, eh?”
Adam went on to express how Upset’s departure negatively affected Fnatic’s mental state going into the group stage. Despite all this, Adam still claims that Fnatic did their best with who they had and that the Fnatic roster had, “finished our adventure without any regrets.”
"I was treated like shit"
When it comes to the off-season shuffle, Adam says he was thinking about leaving Fnatic after the murky situation surrounding Upset, but the rumors about Barney "Alphari" Morris and Luka "Perkz" Perković pushed him over the edge. According to Adam, Upset went behind his back and attempted to recruit a new top laner.
“Indeed, Perkz had signed before Alphari, which left Alphari without a team. To my great surprise! Upset tried to recruit Alphari (behind my back of course). I learn later that after the Worlds he was already trying to change the topside including Nisqy. I also learnt later that the botlane in general didn't want to play with me anymore and was looking for a veteran type of toplaner!”
“I left because I was treated like shit by the management and even the players of the team. But I consider that I played a very important role in the success of FNC during this summer.
