Twitch streamer Imane "Pokimane" Anys announced that she will be offering $100,000 USD in scholarships to 10 student gamers in association with the American Video Game League. 50% of the funds will come from Poki, while the rest will be supplied by the AVGL, an organization that runs collegiate esports events.
"I am happy and excited to announce to you all, that I have created a $100,000 dollar scholarship with the AVGL," the streamer said excitedly. "It's my third scholarship, and this time its not tied to a specific school like the other ones were. I always try to make things as broad and available to as many people as possible. . . so anyone who enjoys gaming, and is a student in the United States or Canada can apply!"
Applications for the scholarship are due by midnight on Dec. 31st, 2021. The recipients of the funds will be selected in Feb. of 2022, and receive the funds for their Fall semester of 2022. Ten students will receive 10,000 dollars each from the scholarship fund.
Pokimane has donated money for student gamers before, having donated $50,000 in Scholarship funds to the University of California Irvine's Esports program in 2020. This is the first time she has created a scholarship fund that isn't tied to a specific school.
Students who are interested in applying can do so here. The application requires a 1-2 minute video highlighting the background and goals of the gamer, with high school juniors + seniors, current college students, and even grad students able to apply for the scholarship.
