FaZe Clan won its first North American Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) event by dethroning the defending world champions The General NRG in the Grand Finals of the First NA Fall Regional qualifier on Sunday.
FaZe's win was the first win of the Fall Split for the RLCS. As a result, FaZe Clan now leads the RLCS NA region with 301 circuit points, followed by The General NRG at 250 points, Space Station Gaming at 200 points, and Version 1 at 200 points.
FaZe Clan is the new kid on the block in the RLCS, having only joined Rocket League in March of this year. They initially entered the Spring Split with a roster of Gyro., AYYJAYY, Allushin, and Moopy as coach. They replaced Gyro. with Firstkiller in September, a change that royally paid off throughout this past weekend's event.
After a solid preliminary stage in which they secured a 3-1 record, FaZe Clan entered the main bracket as the fourth seed. They started off their bracket run by defeating Envy, a well-respected Rocket League contender, in an epic 4-3 shootout. FaZe then followed that with another 4-3 battle against the highly regarded Space Station Gaming in the semifinals, before finally trouncing NRG in the Grand Finals 4-1 to claim the qualifier championship title.
While all the players from FaZe were on fire this weekend, Firstkiller's performance was particularly impressive. He landed multiple highlight-reel-worthy goals at key moments throughout the tournament, making the difference for the FaZe squad.
The next Regional competition will take place next week on Oct. 22-24th, followed by a third qualifier on Nov. 12-14. The Split will finish up with the international RLCS Fall Major taking place on December 8-12.
